Pic related German class 644 diesel-electric Talent, built 1999ff. in 63 three car units, used on non-electrified lines around Cologne until Dec'13. Most of them have been temporarily retired since they got replaced with ALSTOM LINT 54 and LINT 81 DMUs.
They are now all over the place. Some of them are still used in Cologne on a smaller secondary line, some are now in a surrogate service from Dortmund/Hagen on the Sauerland line since PESA isn't able to deliver the ordered LINK DMUs for these lines, some have been passed on to south Germany/Baden-Würtemberg after an extensive refurbishment and some are still waiting for better days and to be put back into service.
