Will they ever be a practical alternative to planes? I've never even seen any except for the Goodyear blimps. I wish there were more of these.

I believe amazon recently patented a plan for a blimp that would launch quadcopter drones to deliver packages. Like an unmanned delivery mothership.

Only could ever work over a major city due to economy of scale, and even then I think aviation laws are in the way currently. But maybe
