There should be a rail line from the Lake-Cook Road area of Highland Park over the abandoned Chicago North Shore & Milwaukee R-O-W (Yellow). At Skokie, the line would run over the abandoned C&NW Skokie-Mayfair Branch R-O-W (Red). At Mayfair, the line would connect to the CTA Blue Line (Blue).

This would give the northern suburbs a direct, one-seat rail connection to O'Hare Airport, bypassing the congested Edens Expressway entirely. It would consist almost entirely (>90%) of former railroad rights-of-way that have not yet been redeveloped.
