i don't know why people imagine nuclear reactors have to be big and specially dangerous. the chance of a modern reactor to go critical is almost nonexistent. chernobil was not even a nuclear explosion it was first a steam explosion of coolant liquid and then an explosion of the insulating material graphite. it required a few design flaws and multiple operator errors and still wasn't a nuclear explosion. sadly the housing of the fuel rods cracked and it resulted in a runaway meltdown.
