>>1103902>And potential eletric energy can be create by a ton of ways, many are nowhere near as bad as oil drilling.the environmental damage is from mining the lithium to create batteries, not from generating electricity
electricity is fairly clean, but until batteries are safe, cheap, and don't require lithium, electric is pretty shitty
>You still need roads anyway, roads arent just for cars.yes, you need roads, but you don't need roads built to support >2 ton vehicles
the cost of building roads goes up quite a bit with the weight per square foot requirement
next time you see a new highway being built, look how deep the foundation is
compare that to the depth of foundation for a bike path/pedestrian walkway
bike/pedestrian paths also don't need to be anywhere near as wide as roads
an average neighborhood road with 1 lane in each direction and parking on each side is 29-35 feet wide
you can build a 2 way bike path, with a pedestrian sidewalk next to it, plus space for benches and bike racks in half that
>You want cities to go back to filthy fucking narrow streets with cobbles or mud?no, for small, neighborhood roads, i want a moderately sized, nicely paved bike surface next to a wide sidewalk with benches and bike racks on it
for larger roads i want 1, car width lane each direction for busses and delivery vehicles only, also with a nicely paved bike surface and a wide sidewalk
even with a more than adequate walkway and bike path, the roads would still be narrower than the current 2 lane + parking model used in most cities
the roads would also be cheaper, allowing the city to put some money into plants, trees, and artwork on the sidewalk
