Go spend hundreds of dollars on GoPro cameras for front and back, and if you survive an encounter with a road raging driver you MIGHT be able to get them prosecuted. Anything else you do will just land you in jail or the morgue.

Of course you're probably one of the shitty cyclists who do retarded things that cause encounters with cars. Maybe you'd better stop riding like an entitled little child and be more responsible. Cagers here get stupid-mad that you aren't stuck in their personal 45 minute daily commute-in-an-SUV hell, but they aren't predators.

Try to time your rides. 10am and 2pm is usually the best time to ride if you aren't willing to ride at night. DFW from midnight to 2am is actually pretty great to ride in, and then find shelter at a late night taco stand or whatever for a half hour or so for the DUI bait to leave the bars and ride free until 4 or 5 am when the tide of traffic starts coming back in, later on weekends.

These cunts really like to do the slow cut-off where they slowly edge towards you and ride you to the gutter so they'd hope you'd give way (yes, even on the few bike lanes that exist here). So what I do is match their speed and not do anything (counter their cutting me off). If they persist that's when I usually go for profanities, and if they persist I spit at them.

We're not as civilized as you guys so I don't even pretend that we are one bit of that, and over here there are no traffic rules at all that apply to cyclists anyways so why do I have to follow rules that nobody (especially cagers and motorcycles) even follows in the first place? I even run red lights right in front of the cops and they don't mind (as long as there's no traffic, or pedestrians, who have the right of way, are being inconvenienced).

tl;dr just don't be a bitch and cut them off as a counter move if they decide to cut you off to begin with -- but do this courteously and within legal parameters, i.e. if you're in the right of way and what i would call the moral high ground, then by all means; otherwise it's you who's being the cunt.

Posting because this is the most relevant thread. I take my bike on the light rail for daily commute. I've had nothing but problems...about 5 confrontations in one month. I want to fucking sit down. It is a 40 minute train ride and I want to sit down, not stand in the back like a fucking nigger. I try to take the seat closest to the bike area, and I keep my bike close to me and taking as little room as possible, with the bike 1/2 in the bike area. I've had multiple passengers and maybe one in four railcops give me shit about it. But fuck's sake, anyone would not want to stand for 40 fucking minutes twice a day. So I realize it's technically against the rules, but it's a fucking stupid rule and is discriminatory against cyclists.

Today I was in line to board the rail at the bike door waiting zone, and some uppity bitch says I have to wait for all the other passengers to board first. Which, by the way, would be a neverending flood of fucking people, and I'd get on last and all the retarded peds would be standing around blocking the doors, and I'm sure the door would fucking close on me and bend my rear tire, so no, I'm not waiting for literally everyone and their hobbling old mother to get on before I do. Well, I immediately told her to go fuck herself, at least. These assholes give me a ton of shit but there's always some fuckwit standing literally blocking the doors, every time. And I can ONLY use the bike door, they can use ANY OTHER FUCKING DOOR if they don't like being near a bike. Now I'm in the habit of just cursing them out at the first spot of trouble.

I've thought about wearing a mask or some sort of scary punk-looking clothing to get people to fuck off. I'm not hurting anyone, I'm not bothering anyone, just leave me the fuck alone. What do?

Also, can't carry a fun on a rail, federal offense and my cuck shitty banned funs anyway, despite it being legal state-wise to open carry.

Don't want to bike 30 miles at 6 AM but strongly considering it.

(city will become a literal ice rink, hail also strongly possible, foot plus snow the norm.) I would certainly be in shape riding 2 hours a day. Food cost might double, though.

If it was a direct path, sure, I could do it faster. But there's three major roads to cross where I'll have to wait for a light and a giant highway and a fucking country club that fuck up my road connection options. Rode it home today, wasn't too bad except it routed me through Little Mexico. Some cager used the bike lane as a spill-over lane so he could pull out like a bat outta hell, right in front of me. Then got pissy and rolled down his window when I flipped him off, but got stuck in a traffic jam while I sped past and vanished.

If it was countryside or a bike path this wouldn't be a problem. City riding is different. Not sure if old dried up dicks on the rail or wandering unattended chihuahuas through Little Mexico are worse. Fucking Trump, where is ICE already? If it speaks spanish, toss it in a van.

If you live in an open carry state, the obvious solution is to carry an AR-15, on your back or on a bike mount. You don't even have to have it loaded. The sight of someone wheeling around with an AR-15 is going to deter basically everyone.

Failing that, I'm not sure there's any preemptive intimidation options, but as far as retaliation, three options come to mind. The first would be to carry a hammer in a holster on your top tube, and dent them. A second option would be to use a similar frame holster, but instead of a hammer, get a pray bottle and fill it with a mixture to eat away their paint. A more passive aggressive option would be to carry bumper stickers that say something along the lines of "I'm a dick" and place them on offensive cars.

So you're actually complaining about cyclists filtering traffic. Before, you were complaining about fairness and following one set of rules. Drivers inevitably feel entitled to ride alongside and pass cyclists when the cyclist is slower, so it's only fair that cyclists should be able to pass drivers when the car is slower.
Given this, the cyclist is going to end up at the front of an intersection.

If they have a headstart through a ped crossing, they will be riding on an empty stretch of road for an amount of time. That is time when the cyclist is not in your way. They could easily reach their destination, or the next intersection, without sharing the space with a driver. If you rode a bicycle you'd notice that cutting ped crossings gives you time and space on the road alone. I think you just only consider bicycles when they're triggering you.

I don't run reds, but where I live, a cyclist is considered a vehicle when riding, a ped when walking along the bike.So I don't see it as an issue if I jump off, quickly take a ped green and then return to vehicle state beyond the intersection.

I'm not sure if hook turns are allowed by default in your jurisdiction but if they are you should defnitely use them because they're faster than using pedestrian crossings. And if your traffic lights have visual indicators for the detectors then learn how to activate them by sitting your bike on them. I've been a bit hesitant to post this, but this thread has been alive for quite a long time now and I feel it needs at least one real answer.

A high-wattage laser dazzler can be used to at least try to defend yourself from vehicular assault, or to try to stop a perpetrator from fleeing the scene.

The military uses these to stop the middle-eastern aggressive drivers from cutting off their convoys, because it is actually more effective than firing bullets through their windshield. All you have to do is get the beam near a window and the scattering makes vision through the windshield and windows difficult to impossible.
Protect yourself, but do not use these irresponsibly. If you do, you'll make it more difficult for other cyclists to protect themselves.

From what I've read, solar flares only induce a current in really long wires, and they supposedly do it slowly so there's still a possibility of your electronics being protected if they're hooked up to a surge protector. Today I was riding innacity and a cager passed so close he nearly hit me. Only to meet a redlight a bit up. It's downtown so a bike is literally faster than a cage overall, but a cage will overtake you like a bat outta hell during the short bursts they have a free straight. He passed in my lane, about 1 foot away from me. Heart was beating heavy and all. So I bike up and meet him and scream at him through the open window. I stalked him the rest of the way down the road and got the plate number, then found a cop (they're everywhere) and told her. Not sure if anything will come of it but fuck. I wish I had a projectile or something to throw at cages. Maybe paint balloons or something, stock a few in the pouches on my backpack for easy access or get a frame bag. God damned fucker actually almost killed me, and he didn't even get any further for it. Of course the paint balloon might not pop well. What the hell can you do, carry a hammer? I don't want to get arrested. If they try to pursue me I can disappear pretty easily in a city. not the first time I've slipped an angry cager chasing me. But I don't want the cops looking for me as my bike is easy to identify.

Is there any sort of database for group retribution? Post plates, make, model, color, and maybe someone can find and hit them.

An air horn would be great, it gets their attention because it's very loud. Refillable types (you'll need to refill them), or the "pump" air horns work well (just press it again and again to make loud blasts). Carrying a sign on the back of your bicycle would be a good idea too, the rack baskets (or crate) would be the best spot, however the wider it is, the more drag it produces.

Drivers/motorists by law, must pass with 1 metre (canada) or 3.5 ft (america) distance. Good idea to put that on the sign with "please share the road, I don't have airbags to prevent possible injuries".

Toronto rider here (where the Ontario Highway Traffic Act applies to cyclists and motorists on roads). Passing through the area of 4chan where bike lanes, cycletracks and bikeways exist, mixed with varying degrees of roads.

Motorists MUST pass with a safe distance (because it's the LAW) of 1 metre (100 cm), when it's safe to do so of course, or wait behind and stay patient.

I use reflectors, reflective vest, lights, air horn (pump-style), a squeaker and bell for various ways of alerting pedestrians/other riders that i'm passing to the left or approaching. Never running stop signs* or red lights. I can stop, then go again without a problem.

*only when nobody is on the road, usually at night between 12am and 4am, side streets only, still slowing down to check pre/post passing.

Motorists have responsibilities, they can lose their license (no more driving) or accrue points against them, if they break the law. Cyclists have a responsibility and a right to use the roads (except where defined in the OHTA), and that must be respected.

Or, the bike lanes are next to curbside cage parking and we have to ride on the edge so cages don't door us.

the "running" that one sees commonly in cities is really stopping, waiting for a sufficient gap in traffic, and then proceeding. the purpose of this is safety: the seconds after the light turns green are dangerous for cyclists because of the mad rush of cagers trying to get around each other, turn this way or that way, second-guess each other, and so on. almost all of my near-death experiences have been when the light is either turning green or turning red. just being in that area is a much bigger risk than going through.

Legally obligated, yes. A cyclist also has an obligation to himself and his dependents, to stay alive. In such cases where there is a conflict between the law and personal safety, the rational cyclist is obviously going to choose safety.

Whether I've *already passed* through some intersection on a red light is not a matter of law, it's a matter of physical facts. The law does not say that I'm over there, when I'm actually over here. The law does not say I didn't move, when I did in fact move. Now, did I disobey some law? Yes, of course I did. But my *response* to the red light is not controlled by law, it is controlled by my free will.

Incidentally, I do not always pass through reds. Sometimes, when a cyclist has been killed recently, such as in the Dan Hanegby case, the police go crazy and ambush cyclists for stuff like this (of course, motorists are exempt). So I take a different strategy: I wait in front of the leading car, generally in the crosswalk (which is rather rude to pedestrians, but rude is cheaper than a ticket). Then when the light turns, I proceed, firmly centered in the so-called "car lane", and only move to the side once I'm about 1/4 of the way down the block, well clear of the intersection. This prevents dangerous passes, and more effectively protects my safety. Of course this is also a major inconvenience to the cagers, but they'll have to deal until the police have filled their ticket quotas.

It's safer for me all around for me to just go. If little boys deiving their trucks realized I can get across the intersection just as fast, if not faster, in first gear than they can driving, I might wait, but as it stands, fuckbois compell me to ignore the red for my own safety.

I'm fine with it so long as cars get preference when it is the choice between a driver making a right and a bike using the crosswalk. Drivers just won't care, people barely use their fucking blinkers in the states, much less even properly. Drivers wouldn't even know about a bike-preferential law if one was passed, even if it did make national headlines.

If you disagree with me that's fine, but you'd be fucking wrong simply because operating as things should be is fucking stupid, operate as things are, and work within the system.

Bikes travel (for the most part) on the rightmost part of the street. The cyclist would be between the car and the crosswalk.
