>>1107805>Velomobiles can't replace cars, but they can replace scooters and mopeds. No, they can't.
People who want to get around using muscle power will ride a regular bike. People who don't aren't going to be any more interested by something that looks like a dildo on wheels, that still gets them to their destination all sweaty and tired, and that is actually *less* safe on public roads, due to the fact that it's lower, therefore less visible, and that takes up the space of two regular bikes side-by-side. Also those are as expensive as a race bike, whereas a regular aluminum commuter bike costs $1000 or (much) less.
Finally, if they were such a great idea, then why don't you see them everywhere? Shocker, you don't, because they're not, not any more than any other type of recumbent (which in reality it is, it's a recumbent with a fairing built around it).
Seriously, do you expect a woman, working in an office setting, who needs to show up in business casual, with appropriate makeup, hair, etc, to commute 10+ miles each way to work, and not show up all sweaty, smelly, and messed up? She'd look at you like you were nuts if you suggested it; she wants to drive in a CAR to work, or at the very least take a cab or public transit, or Uber/Lyft, or the train, or anything other than get all sweaty and nasty before she even gets to work. She *might* tolerate a scooter or a moped (more likely the former) *if* the weather is nice; if not then it's a car.
Nope, sorry, it's an fringe choice for fringe people, not a universal solution. People generally like CARS. That's why we have them, that's why they're everywhere, because people like them.
