Guess what, it never flew using nuclear engines. When they ran the reactor it irradiated the rear of the aircraft including poor Ivan in the tail gunner position. The shielding for the pilot and other crew up front was inadequate as it was ass heavy. They don't fly for a good reason.

I mean, I guess it's an OK looking airplane, but I've spend too much time flying Delta to have anything but loathing for these. Most old ex-NWA aircraft that are old, cramped, loud, and generally unpleasant to fly on.

I will not shed a single tear for them when Delta finally replaces them with Bombardier CS100s

yeah ain't fucking happening. Whole aviation industry is preparing to give Boeing the finger over this, because they don't even build any jets that small anymore. Boeing was offering to refurbish some B717s for Delta (AKA warmed over MD90s), and Delta laughed them out of the building.

Keep deluding yourself. The fact of the matter is the what Bombardier did was a textbook case of dumping. They sold CS100s, with government backing, across borders at an intentionally massive loss in order gain market share. That's against all sorts of international trade rules. Nothing will come of this other than Bombardier raising prices on the aircraft.

nah of course competitors are happy about it. DOT asked other airlines too and they agree Boeing's product xan cokpete with CS100 directly. Embraer will also be happy as they can sell more E2s. Airbus might also be happy too for similar reason.

This. If Bombardier was smart about it, instead of direct subsidy the Canadian & British governments would have given them a bunch of massively over-inflated defence contracts. You know, the same way that Boeing are massively subsidised by US taxpayers.

Sure, that's what I'm saying: Canada and the UK just place a few pork-barrel "contracts" that happen to cover dual-use (civilian) aircraft development as well, and Bob's your Uncle. Throw in a few "research" (nudge nudge) contracts too, and there you go.

It's a successful tactic that's been exploited by Boeing & the US government for decades. It's amazing that Canada & the UK didn't notice.
