I just got back from Tokyo and realized how many Transit cards I had piled up. Has anyone noticed themselves collecting passes, temporary or otherwise?

From top to bottom, left to right: MetroCard (New York), Ventra (Chicago), Breeze (Atlanta), Pasmo (Tokyo), and it probably doesn't count, but Delta Skymiles.

I've had an unused Newark Light Rail ticket for so long that the print on the ticket has faded.

The qantas one is a prepaid travel money card and a membership card at the same time. I think Virgin have a similar product available as well

I only have my local system because I am poor. I have all of these cards though they are not all currently valid.

Top Left to Right: Green Line special edition Go-To Card, Campus Zone Pass (good for LRT stations on campus, U-Pass - unlimited rides for students
Bottom Left to Right: Original Go-To card, Current Go-To card
Not pictured is my employee ID which gives me free transit rides. (It has my face/employee#)

My everyday carry is the green card. I will have to switch soon because the card is almost 10 years old and they are set to expire then. There are plans to make my university ID a valid unlimited ride card so I don't have to carry the U-Pass.

Interesting. I don't believe we have such a product in the States. What's the point of a prepaid travel money card? Don't you have credit/debit cards? What's the incentive to put money on your frequent flyer card?

Standard credit/debit cards have pretty high fees when going overseas, this one has fixed fees and competitive exchange rates, and earns frequent flyer points on purchases. I believe it's 1 point per dollar spent overseas and 0.5 per dollar on domestic spend. Obviously there's points earning credit cards that earn more domestically so I use one of them, but for heading overseas it's super handy.

The Campus Zone Pass which allows you to ride the three stations on campus is free for students. The university also has it's own fare free transit system for around campus which attracts so many riders it has a lower subsidy per passenger than the local transit system despite charging no fares.

The U-Pass is $114 a semester compared to $480 (~4 months X $120 a month) so it is a phenomenal deal.
