Ryanair. 4 euro for a shitty can of drink and disinterested hosts/hostesses. Small legroom but I'm like 5'8 anyway so it was fine. Otherwise okay and pretty cheap if you go hand luggage only and check in online etc.

It's like you expected first class service for bargain bin price. I've never had a problem while flying on any low cost airline, Ryanair included. Yeah it's not the same as flying business on a bigger airline but it's what you should be expecting for the price you pay.

WestJet misplaced my luggage once and I will never forgive them. i was flying for military stuff so it had all my uniforms and shit that I needed for the next day.

they sent some dude in a taxi at 4 am to deliver it to me though, which was nice, so i forgive them a little bit. but not completely.

other than that I've never had a bad airline experience that was the airline's fault

As terrible as skymiles are, WN, B6 and AS don't have the coverage needed to be the 1st choice every time despite being vastly superior to Delta/United/American. Doesn't help that I'm a captive Atlanta passenger.

Credit where credit is due, Delta is one of the best airlines in the US when it comes to recovering from weather and maintenance interruptions. Makes up a bit for their shitty award program and underhanded marketing/negotiation tactics.

Flight from Antananarivo to Johannesburg. I had a bad cold and was feeling pretty shitty. The guy behind me won't let me put me seat back because he has long legs. Starts with me putting my seat back to try to sleep. He begins kicking the back of my seat and trying to push it forward. This little passive aggressive game continues for ten minutes until he starts screaming at me. I had no idea i was crushing his legs until then. Stewardess comes over to see what the problem is, offers to move his seat. He refuses and i have to spend the rest of the fucking flight with my seat up while feeling very unwell. Gives me the stink eye as we're getting off the plane. I shouldn't have let him get away with it, but i unwell and not very confident back then.

I fly a ton, mostly JetBlue and Southwest domestically. I flew spirit last weekend and it honestly wasn't that bad, other than the seats not reclining and the shitty legroom on the older leather seat-equipped aircraft I was in on the return leg.

Their fleet is more or less brand new, I saved hundreds compared to Southwest or JetBlue's fares that weekend, and I cared fuck all about the legroom or having to pay for everything because it was just a 1 hour flight.

You'd be retarded to use Spirit for anything longer than NYC->Chicago, but it's perfectly good for short haul travel when Southwest or JetBlue's fares for a given trip are higher than they should be.

Honestly, the worst airline experiences I've had are when I forget to check in on Southwest and end up with a high C boarding group number on a busy flight in a 1990s vintage aircraft. I flew an old 737-300 with them in 2015 that I could have sworn had a bad yaw damper as a particularly bad bit of turbulence damn near put us into a dutch roll. Only time I've ever felt that, desu.

Southwest's cabin crews are GOAT, JetBlue's are right behind them, and Spirit are sometimes apathetic but at least they're all young and cute for the most part.

Once had a flight delayed because the pilots came late because the captain needed is coffee, my luggage was delayed nearly every other time i flew with them, once made me miss my flight and gave me a $10 meal voucher and delayed me by over a day in DEN.

They really need to up their game, theyre the worst of the big 3

the attendents were all overweight and ugly
the staff lacked any sort of courtesy and were unprofessional. When you ask them for something and they coulnd't hear you they would be like huh, wut? like it was a school playground or something
the person doing the announcement was stuttering like crazy for some reason
then they literally threw the food trays at us during meal time
toilets were covereed with shit and were constantly dirty
For the final meal they served plain instant ramen since it was a trip back from japan. Like wow they just served us the shittiest low tier food anyone can think of.
It wasn't even a cheap flight i payed full price for it

Even ignoring super shitty ULCC airlines for a minute, most complaints about airline level of service even on regular mainline carriers is born out of ignorance.

A coworker of mine was talking about how how travel used to be a nice, pleasant experience even for economy. And over time they removed amenities and the security protocols at airports made everything worse. Then they introduced more varied classes of air travel and programs to help you bypass the inconveniences at the airport (PreCheck, lounges, Clear, Global Entry, etc.) for a fee. But here's the thing: air travel costs 1/3 of what it did before deregulation (even after accounting for inflation). So of course the service isn't going to be as amenity-rich for the average flier. You're paying vastly less than you used to.
