Cities Skylines for the traffic sims and civic planning.

Train Simulator for the, well trains.

DCS and IL-2 Sturmovik for military aviation.

Flight Sim X for civilian aviation.

Pro Cycling Manager for managing a pro cycling team, or if it's one of the more recent ones, fantasizing you are on a pro cycling team.

And Zwift I guess could count too.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

I mean, a dev team took over it and still rolls out updates every now and then, but the limit of complexity the engine can handle has long been explored by mod teams, like SAS. It's nice to have 400 different aircraft in your game, but I've only flew a handful anyway and without avionicy and subsystems working properly, there's not that much to simulate apart from dogfights.

also xplane is a nice alternative to FSX

I personally approve of the Gran Turismo series. You can drive just about any car you might care to - or at the least one very similar to it - and it's completely devoid of any semblance of obnoxious, egotistical street-racing 'culture'. GT4 is the best.

Trainz is overall garbage. The routes are short and boring plus very few of the engines have accurate cabs (most of them have some shitty Auran cab from another locomotive) The only redeeming factor of Trainz is the route editor which is better than any other train sims. However, if you want to actually enjoy driving the trains I'd just get Train Simulator 2017.

the question was about creating railways, not driving the trains. If driving was the question, of course, I wouldn't recommend it. It's a model railway simulator, not a proper train sim. I wouldn't call it garbage, just like I don't call solitaire garbage because it doesn't simulate card adhesiveness and table roughness.

routes I always created myself and enjoyed it more than driving and accurate tabs? The answer is mods. The modder communtiy used to be huge. And I mean HUGE. There was some superb quality shit back in the day. It's dated now, of course. but if you're considering OTTD, you're not really after graphics, right?

jej I remember that. I'd spend several hours a day hunched over my pc autistically creating a detailed route to the point where I was placing beer bottles on station tables

Human powered aircraft are huge by virtue of the engineering constraints. Even as they are you need like 800 W for a minute to take off then maybe 300 or 400 W just to keep in the air. Gotta be fit as all fuck.

You can catch thermals and gain altitude for free, especialy if it is a slow flying lighweight plane.

K-8 for example are known to outclimb basicly everything modern due to its low weight of 190 kg, despite beeing a 50s/60s steel tube fussulage and wood wing plane that glides only 1:25ish on a good day sice it can fly as slow as 45 km/h if the pilot is verry light.

Not unless you start counting the weight of the plane.
The bigger issue really is that the weight of the plane would go up as more people power it due to the increased amount of chains, belts, pedals and such. I'd be carbon fiber cranks all the way

You need regeneration phases and one of them alone can keep the plane in the air...

Maybe with the advent of mass produced carbon nano tubes, macroscopic graphene sheets and other new materials you could build a airframe as light as 10 kg for a 50 kg manlet with laminar profiles, low wing loading and boundary layer blowouts gliding 1:60 at 30 km/h reducing the required power to about 105 W to maintain altitude.
But we are not there yet.
