>>1119017Here's to hoping that Japanese turbo-nationalism and the desire to wave their technological dicks around vis a vis their superconducting maglevs actually comes to fruition via their proposal to build the 100% pro bono proof-of-technology line between DC and Baltimore.
I could see a Chuo Shinkansen-style line making sense as a DC-NYC connector, and it could do amazing things for Baltimore, Wilmington, and Philly, essentially turning them into commuter suburbs of DC and NYC.
That said, it's the only corridor in the US where such a setup has even a chance of making fiscal sense. LA<->SF is too long and doesn't have the density along the route, LA<->SD is too short with not enough density, NYC<->BOS is too long, with not enough people along the route, and Chicagoland, FL, or the PNW just don't have the density, either.
Though I could hypothetically see a Chuo-style maglev getting built connecting the Texas Triangle, as Dallas<->Houston and San Antonio<->Houston have the density and proximity to justify it, while Dallas<->San Antonio has enough intermediate density with Austin and Waco to make it worth the effort.
I could also see it happening between LA and Vegas, if the casinos footed some of the bill, I guess.
