I was/am pretty set on the Surly Cross Check, but I noticed it comes with cantilever brakes.

Can you recommend any similar bikes from any manufacturer? I’m looking for something with a steel frame that I can commute on every day, smash out some randonneurs or blast through the twisties and a bit of gravel at the weekend and do some touring in the summer. Everything I find that fits my needs seems to come from a tiny hipster American company that has very limited stock in the UK.

Don't really care what the brand is. I just want a bike I can kick the shit out of and do whatever I want on for years.
