>>1126045It seems to be getting (marginally) better, but still, this.
The MBTA is certainly better than MOST transit systems in the US, but it's still got a ways to go to reach the caliber of CTA, the MTA, or even what Los Angeles has right now.
Its biggest problem is old infrastructure, which isn't helped by the fact that both Democrat AND Republican administrations in the state have swung a major boner for building new stations or rebuilding existing ones, while showing next to no interest whatsoever in spending money on even basic MOW work, much less the track/switching/signalling upgrades that every line that's not the Blue Line desperately needs right now.
Oh well, at least Ashmont/Fields Corner/Government Center/Charles MGH/Kenmore/Assembly/All of the Blue Line all have fancy, flashy new stations for the broken, rusting 30+ year old trains to dwell in when equipment failures/power delivery fires/broken switches and crossovers/perennially track-jumping Breda LRV's inevitably cause cascading 15-30+ minute delays through the central hub of the system in the middle of rush hour.
Like I said though, things ARE looking to be on the up and up now that the new Orange Line vehicles and the Green Line's Type 9's will both be getting delivered soon, so at least the ridership will have shiny new equipment to get stuck in the station for 15 minutes for "schedule adjustments" in. Furthermore, the commuter rail is on-schedule for its PTC upgrade, so the T will now be able to place its broken-down GP40MC or HSP46-hauled consists to within millimetres of their actual stopped locations.
