ITT post pathetic or great excuses for bike lanes in your town. This is the average "bike" lane in my town. Not even 100 feet later it unironically says to yield to bikers when turning right.

My town has a "bike lane" that is about 1.5x wider than that. It is on a 40 mph road that doesn't have any stoplights over the 3 mile length and is a truck route so there are semis flying by at 45/50 mph. The route is signed as a Bike Route but they technically don't call them bike lanes, they are just considered a shoulder that bicycles can bike in. Makes me mad.

My city has an actual "nice" bike lane that is separated from traffic, but instead of making it completely straight, they decided it was better put fucking street lights in the middle and a "go around" part.
So now you always have retards who can't corner for shit, don't pay attention when cornering or slow down, making it impossible to keep a constant speed.

Not to mention the ground is made from bricks and not tarmac.

Well, if you don't live specifically in this area (the bike lane is a straight line of about 12km along the coast), then It's practically useless because it's the only bike lane in the entire city.
Otherwise you're still in a third world country (Brazil) riding alongside buses. But in general, I would give these maybe a 6? the bricks suck and the "go around" parts are horrible.
Sometimes it sucks being stuck inside it, as it makes it hard to maneuver out of a crash or something. but overall, yeah, you feel safer.

What really makes this bike lane insufferable are the other riders on it and the pedestrians not looking or being on it.

My city has like 100m of bike lane all in all, you are supposed to ride on the sidewalks, everywhere but the most inner city where you walk your bike, imo this system works much better than making cyclists ride with the cars.

It's real nice on Chestnut St with the new """protected""" bike lane we've got, with the bike lane on the far left, and cars parked to our right, but not only is it a bitch with large parties standing there waiting to get in and out of the car (With nowhere to go around them, since it's sidewalk to yer left and car to yer right), I forget exactly where, but suddenly the bike lane switches to an unprotected lane on the far right hand side of the street.

It's three lanes of traffic, one way, coming off a downhill portion, and every cager has no patience for you, will not slow down, and will not let you get into the bike lane, despite being furious with you for not being in the bike lane.

Better yet is that once your on the right side bike lane, you come into a lane that's marked for right hand turns only, so naturally you get in the middle lane, and then 100% of the time, every person in the right hand turn only lane will actually go straight, and then be furious with you that you're in the middle of everything.

Fuck.

To be fair, I don't know what I want them to do, save for getting in the passenger side and sliding across the seats to the left, but bench seats aren't really common anymore. It's a design flaw more than anything. On a sleepier street, it be nice, but I keep having to stop or be a bitch about plowing through since there's a lot of normie-shit going on there.
I feel like an ass, but I'm coming from West Philly and there's only so many roads over the water going the direction I'm going and that's the comfiest.

Here in LA they've built new bike lanes around all of the new light rail, which are actually pretty nice (mostly because they're paved well) despite the fact that every mile there's some intersection that is impossible to cross on foot or bike so you end up on a different road altogether. The worst thing though, by far, is that every bike line has this constant line of broken glass stretching miles through it, as if someone had carefully laid it out as some sort of ironic guide for cyclists. It lingers right in the middle of the bike lane perfectly, almost like someone put it there. Either there are 50 accidents in every mile of road a day, or the street cleaning trucks are spraying it there along with water. I don't see any other reasonable explanation.

Here they just put shared path signs next to existing sidewalks and ban bikes from the street.
Also note how the bike part ends at every intersection so legally you're supposed to step off the bike and walk it across each side street.

They just built this in my neighborhood a few years ago. It's fucking glorious, about the width of a car lane, and gets me about 35% of the way to downtown. The rest of our lanes are shit but there's an off-street path that i can take the rest of the way which is less direct but completely car free.

For fucking real? Fuck them. There's a "separated bike path" near me. Diagram. Every corner there's a ramp down to the crosswalk (which has no crosswalk lights and no foot traffic because suburban wasteland). So you have to weave around, descend the ramp, turn, ascent, weave through, descend the next ramp, etc. It takes forever. But the road is a 50 mph cageway with asshole drivers, zero shoulder, and you'd be murdered trying to cycle it. So you have to do this retarded weaving.

Honestly I think having a road with a shoulder in the middle is the best solution. A little bit of extra width in the middle allows safe overtaking of cyclists even in heavier traffic.

I rode this bad joke of a cycle path a couple times on the way to my home. It was kind of a challenge, with all of the curves, parkings, trees and cobblestone crossings in middle of it. I ended up giving up and using the road instead, as it isn't a street that gets much traffic anyways.

More recently it was replaced by a much more decent one on the lane, across the street, so i hope they eventually restore this to being a part of the sidewalk, which it should have always been.

Sorry for the poor quality pics, but these are the msot illustrative ones I could find.

I don't for the life of me understand why they do this when making a bike path
they just redid one of the smaller roads through campus here with bricks laid out in a zig zag pattern
its closed to cars now, bikes and wheelchair/electric mobility scooters only, there's still a pedestrian sidewalk, not that they actually walk there
but instead of putting some nice smooth asphalt down, they had to use these bricks, which took months of work and must have cost a fortune
it is only 4 city blocks long, they could have put fresh asphalt down in a day for a fraction of what they spent
the road does look nice, but it is terrible to ride on, so i've started riding through on the main car road now
