>>1128812I've got a PowerTap wheel (use it in training) but the bearings only last for a year or two at best if you're using it constantly, and it has to be shipped to the manufacturer in Wisconsin when they need to be replaced (so it costs me more than $200 every time, shipping and rebuild cost).
I don't need to use that wheel's capabilities for every ride though, so what I've decided to do is to build a bulletproof rear wheel to use the rest of the time, so I save the wear-and-tear on the PowerTap wheel's bearings.
What I'm asking for is a recommendation on a rear road hub, Shimano 10/11 speed compatible, preferably with cartridge bearings that I can replace myself when they wear out. Weight of the hub is not an issue, this is for general riding, not racing. 32 or 36-hole.
I'm planning on building the wheel on a DT Swiss RR585 (or equivalent; they don't seem to make that rim anymore).
Frankly if I can't come up with a hub that matches the specs listed above, I'll probably just go with an Ultegra or Dura-Ace hub and not worry about it. The Ultegra hub on the front wheel I've been using for several years now shows no sign of bearing wear, despite all the miles on it, but I still like the idea of a hub I can completely replace the bearings on (ball-and-cone bearings are good, but what happens when the bearing races wear out?).
Thanks guys. :-)
