>>1130194>>1130196I think the noise levels of monorails depend on a lot of factors, and that there isn't an inherent quietness or loudness to them. The number of wheels, the way the wheels are mounted on the cab and whether they transfer noise to the cab a lot, the arrangement of the roller wheels and guide wheels touching the rail(s), the materials of the rail(s), the manufacturing and assembly precision of the rail(s), the way the rail(s) mount(s) to the posts. You'll notice that the louder monorails are the older ones where all those underlying engineering interconnections weren't as well understood yet or where the tolerances were worse. But I think that even relatively loud monorails are still no louder than any conventional tram or light rail. The racket I've seen some trams make is absolutely abysmal.
