This bicycle comes with a 44T cotterless chain wheel and 17cm crank. Many older bicycles use wedge-shaped fasteners called "cotters" to hold the cranks onto the bottom bracket axle. These cotters have a nut to hold them in place after they have been driven or pressed in. They can be difficult to remove, especially if they have been in place for a long time. The iBike HT has gone cotterless which means the axle is integrated making it easy to remove and repair in the future. The pedaling was smooth and wasn’t too difficult to accelerate on city streets.

It's just a single-speed roadster bike. Can't tell if it's a Phillips roadster or DL-1 copy, but you can find DL-1s easy enough these days for like $500, and those at least have a 3-speed hub.

this is actually a great idea from a manufacturing perspective because the smashed tube Walmart-style bike frames are much, much cheaper to make than the old lugged roadsters. but the roadster components like rod brakes are already as cheap as it gets. so this is a winning combo for maximum cheap bike production in a not really industrialized country

some of the old english ones are pretty classy
completely different type of bike than a 90s rigid, not that comparable imo
most roadsters are 3 speed igh and have a fairly upright position
they make decent town bikes if you live somewhere flat and aren't too worried about speed
whereas a 90s rigid is more capable on hills and will be a bit sturdier overall, but isn't as classy and might be heavier

There are bicycle designs that are functional, incredibly robust, simple to maintain, and comfortable to ride in any conditions and in most clothing like the dutch omafiet (granny bike) or the traditional chinese bicycle that can be made and sold for little or no money.

There is no need for 14 speed IGH in a commuter, my roadbike has 14 gears wich include quite some overlap.
A 3-speed IGH is usually enough:
1. for uphill
2. for flat
3. for slight downhill or going fast

1. Metal for front wheel is reasonable to not get too shanken hands
2. Same vibration isn´t good for ass, so if you ride on low quality pavement, you do want suspension for it.
3. I am guessing it fails at suspending properly? But still do enough, that if test driven, its reasonable if you drink the cool aid

Id like to see. Honestly Id like to see kids bikes get lighter. My nephews 16" BMX bike for Christmas is a friggin tank. It easily supports my near-200lbs ass. I bet the thin pipe for electrical conduit can make a super cheap bike frame that could easily support a <90lbs kid and the manufacturer shouldnt worry of it breaking for years of bashing and jumping off little jumps.
