>>1132436It's not so much the trend towards really wide tires, 30mm etc, those bikes aren't replacements for your italian style race bike of old with 23 or 19mm tires, they're a different thing. A good thing. The posting in this thread is mostly irrelevant.
It's not like roadies aren't all still riding 25mm at >100 psi anyway.
Smaller sizes of tire made more sense with the more compliant steel road bikes, but i miss them yeah.
I miss 70s, 80s & 90s road bikes. They were svelte. Now all the tubing is larger, frames, bars stems, everything. Tires are wider, hubs are wider. Going from 126mm to 130mm hubs wasn't so bad, but now disc hubs are a brutish 142mm. Polished silver components are gone. Everything's black. It's sad.
As much as i love old racing bikes, they were designed to be as light and fast as possible. Riding them over modern bikes seems against their very ethos. Some people might say 'I don't care about going fast' or 'im old now' and really those people would have a better time on something that wasn't a racing bike at all, new or old.
