2 hours in the gym in the morning, 3 hours on the bike in the afternoon, got home just after the sun went down. During the week I ride before work, and this week it got all the way down to 32 degrees. Couldn't feel my thumbs or forefingers until I'd been home for a while (need better gloves).

Temperature around -1 °C. Last time we had a warm spell there was lots of ice in the morning from the melting snow. This time there is just lots of that brown sugar snow which is awful to ride on. It just sort of smears around which bad for control and slows me down a lot. There aren't deep patches of it yet, but it is spread all over the side streets in little clumps. I'd rather be riding on ice.

Is it just me or is it freaking awesome to ride dusty hard pack? I few like it has less rolling resi than asphalt, and I can almost go faster if it werent for bumps. Like think about it, rubber sticks to asphalt awesomely, but dusty dirt? No way

It was cold and slippy. It was raining and snowing at the same time. The snowflakes were very tiny and hard on the face, razorlike.

All the minor roads are very icy now, making riding less fun. Going to need some snow to bury that shit. Back to the -10 to -20C range starting mid week.

When it was colder I started putting green tea in my thermos or drinking some to warm up when I got home. But it turns out green tea upsets my stomach a bit. Not enough to feel it, but causes intermittent burps for hours.

Same thing happened last Christmas. I was hoping to bomb around a partially constructed freeway over the next week while the work crews are off.

On ice back wheel always wants to spin out unless butt is on the saddle. Makes getting started from a stop a challenge, panniers help a bit. When coming to a stop I always assume that my foot is going to slide when I put it down, so I always put it down lightly to test traction before shifting weight onto it. Often I'll be sliding on the foot while still braking to a stop.

On ice you never want to stick an arm out when falling (or probably any other time). Just take the hit with side of upper arm and shoulder. If you got an hand out it would probably slip out upon contact with the ground hyper extending or dislocating the shoulder.

The thing I hate most about ice is that you pretty much have to go where gravity is pulling you if the ice is off camber. Try to fight it and the bike will slip out sideways. So you end up taking weird lines and ending up on a part of the road / path you don't want to be. Or running off the path in order to safely make a course correction.

Too bad its going to get really cold otherwise I'd do a longer night ride checking out Christmas lights. This was the best one I came across so far.

This time of year I'm reminded of the name of the local Christmas light tour was used by the police when they used to drop drunk indians outside of town rather than dealing the paper work at the station. All fun and games until one of them freezes to death in the winter.

New 6 cell battery I ordered for my flashlight 2 months ago finally arrived today. Magicshine really cheaps out on their battery packs hoping people (apparently like me) don't look at the specs before ordering. The 6 cell battery is rated at 7800 mah, which translates to 1300 mah cells. The latest cells have 2.6x that capacity, even cheap cells are 2x.

Price was ok, and I should be fine with that capacity. But the old 4 cell pack I'm rebuilding with Panasonic cells is going to end up being 13000 mah.

With cold on the way I made a quick trip over to the LBS to pick up a new helmet that would work better with ski goggles. Ended up with a Bern FL-1 Trail which has a lip around the top to keep the goggle strap from slipping up. I tried a couple Giro winter helmets but neither M nor L fit.

I dun goofed on the cell capacity. The battery is 7.4v series / parallel and mah is only added for the cells in parallel which makes 2600 mah cells, pretty standard fare. My rebuilt 4 cell battery will be 6800 mah.

I ordered some, then canceled. Wished I had them that one day, but it was an unusual mix of weather that we never get.

I'm well outside of town, and work on the edge of town. It's all about snow and not ice for me (nothing is ever cleared) so studs are useless. I need lots of tread and nothing more.

2nd day of extreme cold. Running on treadmill for first time since mid-March to keep in shape. Legs pretty stiff, but at least my hip wasn't sore like last winter. I put the Chromecast on that tv so I can watch Netflix or stuff from my Plex server.

No riding since last Friday and probably none until Tuesday or Wednesday. Starts warming up Tuesday but the system change will be accompanied by massive winds. Low for tonight is -38 before adding the windchill.

I got 3 runs in before taking a day off due to a minor calf pull, then 1 more yesterday. By yesterday my legs adjusted so they weren't sore the next day, the first 3 days were brutal.

Ordered some more Continental Cyclocross Speed tires for the upcoming season. Worked well on gravel and pavement for me this year. I was thinking about trying Schwalbe G-One, but they were more expensive, also out of stock.

Here a view of Irvine, I think. Where the coastal mountains start to divide it from Laguna Beach. Inside the mountain walls it's sort of dessert climate. Very dry, little variation in temperature

Full moon looked amazing low in the sky tonight while I was riding around in the snow. I forgot to take my camera but a photo probably would have looked like crap anyway. Much less icy than it had been prior to the start of the cold spell. The ice has been covered with a thin layer of packed snow, which while slippery in a car, is soft enough for studs to grab well. The temperature dropped to -15C quickly so I kept the ride short.

The benefit of a week and a half of -30C temperatures is that all bodies of water are sure to be safe to ride on now.

Out again last night, had my camera, took picture of moon and it was crap. I'm less inclined to fiddle around with camera setting when its -14C and windy.

I couldn't get the Magicshine 6 cell battery I bought for my Dinotte light to charge before using it. So I took it with me last night to run it down a bit. It charged when I came back so I guess I'm good. The MS connector is almost the same as the Dinotte one, but I had trim off some excess rubber.

Found where the railway line used to run into Wodonga yesterday. Railway station is now nice and out of the road so cagers don't get mad about level crossings and can safely ignore the terrible quality of service on the Albury Line.
Tip: Bicycles are not good for riding over railway ballast.

About 21 km of today's ride was on ice. The sections of ice without any snow cover were faster than riding on pavement. The snow covered parts had very little snow so I could still fly along at a good clip. I might drive to the start of the ice tomorrow and go further. Just to get there was a 33 km round trip making for a long fat bike ride.

Fug. There is a weekly Tuesday night fat bike group ride. And for nearly every one of them the weather ends up being too shitty to ride from home, a 24 km round trip. Tomorrow is shaping up to be no exception. Wind forecast to be 60 km/h for the return trip along with some freezing rain.

I'll just ride early instead and do the ride I was planning to do today before I got distracted and followed a trail I spotted out of the corner of my eye.

Went for a spin on a lake today, a lot more slick than it was on the weekend. Even though the ice is really thick the look of it is disconcerting. There was a warm spell prior to a prolonged deep freeze. The warm spell created round holes and spider web cracks all over the ice and since it didn't snow since then the cracks are mostly clear compared to the ice around them. So it looks like you are riding across ice that is breaking up.

Riding early was a good call. The forecast changed pushing the wind back so I was planning to do the group as well. LBS posted videos of guys in the shop trying to ride rollers, then quickly deleted it. I guess they didn't want to scare off potential customers. I bought my used locally and the guy who came to the door was in a wheelchair which worried me for a second, but it turned out to be the guy's room mate.

Amazingly icy here and the temp dropped back to the -20 to -30C range. Lots of people posting videos online of them ice skating on the roads. I'll make an effort to hit some of the super slick MUP tomorrow to see what kind of pressure gives the best grip with my studded fat bike tires. Might need to go to 4 or 5 psi to get my outer row of studs to make continuous contact.

I used a program called QGIS which is used for mapping. It can also display the traces over a map, though the background map gets redrawn every time you move the map which can get annoying. I have all my rides in a Spatialite database which QGIS can load quickly / filter based on date. I started using it last year when I didn't want to pay for Strava premium, but still wanted something like Strava's heatmap to keep track of the roads I'd visited.

The program can be a pain in the ass to use. I had to watch a video on youtube just to figure out how to save an image of an area of the map. Even the map itself can look goofy if you don't have the right map projection selected.

Getting the database setup is a bit of work. It is populated using a Python script I found on github. It only works with Python 2 not 3.

QGIS has a plugin called Batch GPS Importer that might let you skip screwing around with that script. When importing you'd just need the tracks, not the points. Importing a lot of files is slow, but once imported the layer can be saved so there would be no need to re-import. One of the supported formats is spatialite which is probably the way to go since its just a single file.

Its been a week since the freezing rain and any part of the MUP that hasn't been sanded is perfectly smooth black ice. And the parts of the MUP that were sanded was like beach riding.

I lowered the pressure on my fat bike to see if I could get more grip, and discovered the answer was yes and no. Lower pressure lets my outer row of studs make constant contact. but also vastly increases tire bounce. On the top of the bounce the rear end is unweighted and spins out easily often kicking the rear end to the side. The only way to avoid rear tire bounce is to pedal very smoothly, which is kind of boring.

Some sunny above freezing days ahead so that might take care of the ice. Or at least rough it up a bit for better grip.

Almost all the ice on the MUP disappeared today. I added extra studs down the center of my rear tire. Much more grip much more noise. Not much louder on pavement, but on ice it sounds like someone wringing a sheet of bubble wrap enough to drown out vehicle noise. Tomorrow I'll take the tire off and reinforce the area behind the studs with patches otherwise its just a matter of time before I get a flat. The studs have an auger base with a sharp tip.

Removing the rear wheel today I was reminded why its a good idea to avoid flats on that tire. The rear wheel can't be removed without taking the brake caliper off. The offset rear end of the Moonlander needs to be de-offset with spacers for my rear rack to fit. With the spacers and caliper in roughly the same locations it is impossible to remove the rear wheel with both in place.

Lookout mountain road in Golden. Trick is to time yourself from the gateway pillars to Buffalo Bill's gravesite. Did it in 26 min flat today, averaged 10.3 mph or something. It's a steady climb the whole way up.

I was pleased my headlight battery lasted the entire 4 hours elapsed time of my ride tonight. I was carrying a shitload of batteries with me tonight.

One of my new boot warmers did fuck up on the way home when a wire pulled out of the switch, but I didn't need to plug in the old one. A few kinks in the design need to be worked out, next year's version should be better. I just need to secure one cable to keep the problem from happening again.

I'm loving my new heated glove liners. Unlike most heated gloves it actually heats the individual fingers. Many heated gloves just have a single point of heat at the back of the hand.

The regular Tuesday night ride had 12 people, and a warm night in December had 17, so I was optimistic at least 1 other person would interested given how nice it was tonight. A city 2.5 hours away has a much more active fat bike group, but they also have terrain better suited to it.

Most people drive to the Tuesday ride, so I can see getting everything loaded up can be a hassle. But there is one easy trick to avoid all that ... ride your bike to the bike ride.

Weather has been pretty shitty lately. 90 km/h wind earlier in the week. -20C or lower all week, -32 C at the moment, and the wind will pick up to 60 km/h by morning. Might be a short window late tomorrow afternoon where I can get a ride in.

Got 5 cm of snow today but its so fluffy you could clear your driveway with a leaf blower. That snowfall brings up the current snowpack to about 5 cm.

I saw the most adorable road kill today.

It finally warm enough for the first time in nearly 2 weeks for an enjoyable ride. The wind was gusting to 40 km/h, but couldn't pass up -10C. Mostly just tooling around on the fat bike close to home for 2 hours. Rode across a field to checkout a bridge under construction, then rode around on a frozen creek to a golf course, followed some random dog walker tracks along a railway.

There was a sketchy section of ice with some heaved up areas. Broke through a hollow pocket with my rear tire but kept rolling. Since there was no water seeping up into the snow there was probably good ice under the thin part.

Intermittent nut pain the past few weeks, so I got an ultrasound on my balls today (took about 25 minutes). Might just be the cold weather causing my sack to clamp onto them like a boa constrictor. Pressure from bib shorts is a little unpleasant, but I don't notice it while riding. It will be a few days before I hear back from doctor.

At the point I had become most lightheaded both of them decided to pass me. I've never ridden with other people before so it was a new experience. I managed to keep up with them until the steepest hill before my house came up. I watched as they flew up the hill while I struggled in the easiest gear. I have a long way to go.

I almost bailed on it.

Rained the day before, never warmed up, below freezing overnight. Patches of ICE in places, glittering before me, and crunching under my tires. Made me slow WAY the hell down. Luckily as I rode Southwest, it improved and I could speed up.

I went on a 40 mile ride this morning. I passed a fox, got hissed at by a racoon, and yelled at from a woman by 4 AM. I was averaging right under 14mph, is that too slow? I was pacing myself, but the last 45 minutes were miserable, a good amount of that time I didn't have the energy to pedal down the hills. I only brought two bananas with me, I ate one an hour, and accidentally dropped part of the peels on the road as I tried to tear the things open while riding down streets with no lighting. My immediate goal is to hit 50 miles.

"too slow" is all relative, if that's the pace you are happy with then go for it. That said there's plenty of room to improve if you want to go faster. Your typical guy on a roadbike easily averages 20mph on flat terrain.

yeah this bike is super fun. its my first and only single speed but its so different from my other bikes. tracks a little squirrely at speed but that rear triangle is fkn stiff. you can hammer on it and wont budge. not your friend going up hill though. its geared perfectly for long flats or maybe some rollers in between.

I have hydraulic disc brakes. The temperature was down to -20°C a couple of days earlier this month. Didn't experience any issues with the brakes.

Other than that, proper maintenance and lubrication. Also keeping the bike indoors at night lets any moisture melt and evaporate, leaving no water to freeze up your components.

I Broke my chain in the middle of big busy intersection when i went to put the power down from standstill !

Was kinda expecting it because i had to break the chain to do a big rebuild recently and hadnt got around to purchasing a new power link.

Worst part was i normally carry a chain tool BUT IT WAS IN MY OTHER BAG BECAUSE IT GOT SOAKED. Its Been Raining the past few days. Was super excited to get out on sunday afternoon and chain breaks @ 3:15pm 10km from home. All the bikeshops close @ 3pm on sunday. My dad had to come save me. I was super pissed.

I thought it would be a good idea to pace myself, but I wonder if I took it too far. The last time I went on the same trip I believe I was averaging 16mph, though I remember the final hilly miles being much worse. I was afraid of experiencing that again.

Took the mtb out for a ride just outside town today since it was getting sloppy in the city. Quite the flow of water going down the storm channel.

The new big interchange is coming along, in total this spot will have 8 bridges. Some aspects of the new bypass are going to be dicey for cycling. Several of the flyovers exit and merge from the left side of the road, which means waiting for a gap in traffic to hop across a couple lanes to make the turn.

During construction these fuckers keep barricading work areas with concrete blocks leaving a single lane with no shoulder. One spot has a kilometer long stretch of them.

Saw the saddest of all sights while out for a ride yesterday, someone pushing a bicycle. I stopped to see if it was a problem I could fix, but it was an elderly fellow pushing because he wiped out and sprained his ankle riding his Electra on ice with the smooth tires the bike comes with. He seemed fine so I continued on my way.

Looks like the biggest dump of snow of the winter is going to hit over the next few days. I haven't had my snowshoes out since November.

The snow stopped and wind dropped from 60 kph to 25 so I took the fatty out for an evening ride. The snow was perfect, just moist enough that it easily compacted instead of the typical non-binding powder we usually get. Low cloud cover made it bright enough that I could see a lot without my light. I need to get out early tomorrow before the wind goes back up to 60.

I got another 2 hour ride in this morning before it started snowing again. It was warm enough that the main roads were slushy. Parking lots full of shitty brown sugar snow, but the side streets and alleys were good riding. Riding the fat bike from slush to white snow the speed suddenly drops as the tires pick up a few pounds of snow before it gets flung off.

Left house at 3pm very hot and humid expexting a Storm. Chose my Hardtail for wet weather disc braking and to have have some fun with wheelies and dropping stairs round the city as its been a boring week commuting on my new fred sled.

Got overcast and managed a 10k river loop with a cheeky fairy crossing before the storm rolled in. The last lightning storm we had in was god tier and i wanst getting back home in time so found a shelterd table by the river. Happened to have a bottle of conjac with me and was planning a cheeky few drinks and listen to some fresh 24bit 80's rips.

Anyhows the rain lasted longer then i anticipated and I ACCIDENTLY ENDED UP THE WHOLE THING... also ended up eating half a pack of codeine. What a fucking buzz. Woke up thismorning and cant remember riding home a good 6km from the river ! Lost a foam tip on my IEMS which im pissed off about but other than that mission accomplished Home in one piece. Would do again.

Too much snow to bike. We got nearly 15" so people weren't even walking on the MUP due to the depth of the snow and drifts. I went snowshoeing instead and breaking trail was like climbing stairs. The path finally got plowed today so I'll probably get out riding tomorrow.

I finally did it. I went out on the road I've been avoiding during daylight hours at possibly the worst time of the day with parents picking their kids up from school. The ride was pretty much miserable with my lungs being on fire due to my friend smoking next to me all last night, I didn't even make it a full hour. Got a set of SORA R3000 shifter for my Trek 520 cuz the LBS said it would be cool. But the FD won't shift properly because road and mountain 9 speed FD ratios are different. Oh well, I'll just order a Shiftmate 7 to fix that. The funny thing is the lbs guy had done the same thing to his 520 last year and didn't mention that he couldn't use his triple.

To deal with the road / v-brake incompatibility which I was aware of I installed a pair of Problem Solvers Travel Agents. I bit tricky to get the cable threaded but they work great. They replace the v-brake noodle. Though that in itself caused an issue with my rear brake as I was using a flexible noodle back there due to the rack being in the way. So I had to fix that.

Cabling up front is much neater now, and more comfortable hoods than the crappy v-brake drop levers I had.

I just need to re-wrap the bars. And I might has well set the FD up to give me use of my granny / middle ring. Big ring isn't much use this time of year anyway.

I have the triple but the ratio for road / mountain triple is different. The Shiftmate adapters are like the road to v-brake adapter in that it has two bonded wheels to modify the pull.

That changed tonight. I got a pair of hydro disc brakes, and did a quick test ride. Holy shit are these powerful. One hard squeeze will send me over the handlebars.

Yes, they are. At least on modern Shimano, the pull ratios are definitely different on front derailleurs/shifters between MTB and road.

Documentation on FD compatibility is way worse than documentation on RD compatibility.

Took the fatbike for a ride tonight on the snowshoe trail I packed down this week. One spot was tricky because people walking on it left 8" deep footprints. I also followed some tracks left by snowmobiles.

I had my rear tire around 1 psi and the front didn't even register on my gauge. At that pressure the bike was faster on snow than on bare pavement. There were a lot of snow drifts on the park from the wind yesterday. Some of them were barely hard enough to ride on. If the wind had been another 20 - 30 kph stronger all of them would have been rideable.

I rode a little over 40 miles and made the all time top 10 on a segment, a first for me. I'm still really out of shape, I feel like I should be going out more than 3 days a week. I did manage to hold an average speed of 17.6mph and that's a pretty big accomplishment compared to my previous average speeds that were all less than 16mph.

For today's ride I put a little more air in. I find the 4.8" fat bikes with 100 mm rims can go lower on tire pressure than the 3.8" bikes. On my Moonlander by the time I get to 10 psi the tires are really firm.

I took an hour long morning ride with my stem slammed and I couldn't feel much of a difference. My wrists were uncomfortable, but that could have been my loose non-cycling specific gloves or the cold. Those gloves and my windbreaker aren't even slightly aerodynamic so I can't say if I was any faster.

It's all about the amount of bar drop from your saddle, if your frame is sized correctly this should yield a stem that is somewhere between slammed and 1" above your headset. Preferably slammed.

Endurance frames seem to need a slammed stem for any amount of bar drop, otherwise you're durdling along with a fit that Grant Peterson would enjoy.

When I bought the bike I put every spacer under the stem and left it alone. I changed it up because after 2 1/2 hours in my wrists and hands start to go numb. It's an experiment for now, I won't know if I really like it or not until it warms ups this weekend.

If you're developing numbness that far into a ride my best guess is it's probably your lower back and core that are getting tired and making you lean heavier onto your hands. In my experience a problem with bike fit will become apparent within 1-1.5 hours on the saddle.

I stuck to the hilly part of the city and did laps with a different close segment every time around. I managed to take a place in the top 10 on a dead segment no one has been on in two years. The entirety of the time I was on the bike my mouth was completely dry. I have two 650ml bottles and they were nowhere near enough. After looking, I found 1L bottles that match my bike, but they're $10 a piece. There are clear bottles for half that price, but my autism won't allow it. I'm a little worried my bottle cages wouldn't be able to support the weight.

Out for a fatbike group ride last night I wasn't able to let any air out of my front tire. I thought it was frozen so I let the bike thaw overnight, but this morning even with the valve core removed barely any air was coming out. Loosing the valve stem nut I saw the tube had shifted a lot to one side enough to keep the air from coming out. Must have happened when I was running the tire at less than 1 psi Saturday night.

Snow is melting fast. Should be able to start doing some longer road rides soon.

One of biggest changes is that if only one person has ridden in a particular spot, it doesn't appear on the heatmap at all. That probably eliminates the majority of tracks going up user's driveways. But it also hides relatively unknown little trails, paths, shortcuts.

The previous heatmap included traces for all time periods, new one is limited to 2 years. Though that's probably not a bad idea as roads change over time.

I experienced "the wall" yesterday on an exercise bike and holy fucking shitballs. 110+km ride this morning. I was only aiming for 100, my route was longer than I thought. A pickup and a semi almost hit me near the halfway point. The roads were completely deserted for the past two hours, until I had to slow down and take a left turn into a neighborhood. I see these two guys behind me doing 65mph at least, it was close enough that I went off road before they passed to avoid being hit. Ironically it happened right next to a share the road sign. It had become extremely foggy and I couldn't see anything past my front wheel at all on a street I've never been on before, so I slowed down much more than I would have liked. At 65km my back and shoulders were aching, at 80km I was literally butthurt, out of energy, and ready to be done with it. I was drinking Gatorade until that point. I switched to my bottle of energy powder mix and the caffeine nullified most of the pain. All that remained were the hilly parts until the end of the ride and my legs weren't letting me past the second easiest gear for the most part.

Pretty miserable ride really, it stopped being fun after 65km and my hands were slipping from the condensation all over my bar tape and hoods. Pic was my saddle. I replaced my Selle Italia when I bought the bike, it wasn't comfortable and this saddle was $7 from China so why not. I'll willing to give the Selle Italia another shot for my next big ride.

i use the piano method for stem/bar height. ride along and sit up right in the saddle. pretend you are playing the piano on your handle bars. if you find you are reaching to far and its uncomfortable, you stem is probably too low and long. ideally your bars should be level with your saddle or slightly below it. slightly like 1". not like 3 inches.

no, probably not but that sounds painful. if you are going for mr aero position, you're probably not making that big of a difference being so low. handlebars are mostly meant to be ridden either on the top or on the hoods. the only time im ever in the drop is going down long hills so i can have all of my fingers on the brakes.i also ride shallow drop bars so the bend isnt so huge and hoopy like old schools were. if you want to cheat the wind a little bit, try bringing your hands in closer to the stem on long straightaways, that will make you profile a little more narrow. ive got three bikes, a fred sled, gravel bike and this single speed. they are all set up pretty much the same. seat perfectly level, bars about 1.25" below tip of the saddle. i dunno, getting my bike to fit right took some time but, yeah 10 cm is way too low.

Overnight lows haven't got too far below freezing so the roads are a sloppy mess and the snow doesn't get a chance to firm up. The last 2 days I rode out into a field following the tracks left by snowmobiles. Some are firmer than others, when I find a good one I can follow it for a long way.

Tomorrow night's group ride should be good, light wind and a low of around -4C. Including the ride there and home I usually end up being outside for 4 hours straight, so warmish weather is appreciated.

Would have been better if the wind wasn't gusting to 45 km/h. Over 1,000 km on my fat bike since January. More snow tomorrow, but it is supposed to be really windy, so big drifts.

Also nearly got hit by a cager attempting to pass me on the left when I slowed down while taking the lane and signaling that I was turning left. Is it normal for this to happen every time I take a left turn? I ride in the early morning 95% of the time because of these people.

I'm going to have to try McDonald's mobile ordering some time this summer. I like getting one of their large iced tea for $1 deals while I'm out walking, but on a bike I usually don't because I don't want to lock up and go in. But with mobile ordering you can submit your order and they will bring it to a numbered parking spot.

I got an email reminder about the first event of the season next Saturday for a randonneur club I'm in. Forecast says -16C for the start of the ride, so its probably not going ahead. Same weekend last year was so much warmer, also the snow had completely melted.

Out of curiosity I decided to scroll through the activities on my Edge 800 to see how far back they go. Its got everything since November 8, 2015. I do recall purging old activities at some point but thought is was more recently then that. I've been using that Garmin since 2013, its odometer is around 58,000 km. I had to put a new battery in it last year as its run time was dropping fast.

A tip for anyone wanting to order stuff off Feedback Sports website. Put stuff in a cart, fill out your info in the checkout but don't finish the order. Later they will e-mail you about your cart, a few days later they will send you a 15% off code. I just had parts in my cart, not sure if they do that on stands too.

slowly getting back into riding and being in shape.. the 6 days in a row at the gym kind of wore on me but once I was riding I stretched what I thought was gonna be a 25 mile ride into 37... the wind was kinda rough when I turned around but thats because I basically took last summer off and let myself go.

Saw 5 ravens harassing an owl while I was out this morning. They were all hopping around from branch to branch making a racket and the owl just sat there not giving a fuck.

The snow is getting super crusty in the morning and saps a lot of energy while riding. Maybe a few more days and I'll be able to glide across the top of drifted snow. I found a nice firm stretch hard drifts today, though it just takes one soft spot to plant the front wheel.

My ride didn't happen. It's dark out and my blinky red light won't turn on. It is fully charged and last time I used it I could only switch between 2 out of the 6 modes. I suppose a year and a half isn't bad for a $6 rechargeable light.
