>>1140422>Electric bicycles and electric motorcycles probably do.they both weigh quite a bit more than a traditional human powered bike, which would hurt efficiency quite a bit
assuming 150lb rider, electric bike is like 200lbs total, electric motorcycle like 550lbs total, vs normal bike 170lbs
our muscles aren't that efficient, true, although better than an ICE, as for food that depends on the calorie source
remember though that batteries are hideously inefficient, and lots of places are still burning coal to power the grid
if a cyclist eats nothing but meat, yeah that's crazy inefficient, but if its mostly cereal grains, that's not so bad
and yeah, carpool, bus, train is very efficient, because inefficient power supply is made up for by high occupancy
carpool, buses and trains all have the first/last mile problem though, which is a major impediment in a sprawl
and i think that the calorie expenditure for bicycles shouldn't be factored in the same way gas burning should
riding a pedal bike is very good exercise and has been shown in many studies to reduce risk of heart disease
since obesity is such a major issue, most people don't have to eat extra to cycle, they already eat more than enough
