I put a Cannondale on the street in Philly for years. Center, South, and West. Never was touched. From what I understand the biggest thieves are the crusty punks. They know what has value and think that you're a yuppie if your bike is nice.
But what they definitely won't do is fuck with a fellow punk's bike. Do if you going to punk shows or have some stupid crimthinc shit... Take the stickers, slap them on the bike
If you're one of those guys who keeps their bike pristine and worried about scratches, get over yourself or get a beater
The second theft group was older fuck up black guys who would rip off parts and sell to Mexican bike shops. These guys don't have proper tools and mainly steal bolt on wheels. But one guy twisted the handlebars off of my gf's quill stem. Really amazing move
Modify your bike, keep nothing stock, let it get scratches, clean only the drivetrain. If you have actual decent, unscratched components, at least sticker it up. Fixie bling is especially theft prone. Look for good quality shit that doesn't look expensive and let it get even uglier
