Anyone got one of these electric scooters 电动车 ?

They're very popular here in China, but I don't know how good they will be for the average 190lb 外国人 Chinese are quite small and light people.

Can they still function properly with a western sized person riding?

Not by much. I don't know about electric scooters but I've ridden gas ones and they top out about 35 to 40 Mph. A 1000w ebike with the limiter removed goes about the same speed. Less range though.

Yeah it's a marketing ploy. they advertise the Wattege rating of the motor as the Wattege of the bike. When in fact they are not giving the motor anywhere near that wattage. If something is actually getting 1000W it's going to fucking fly. That's about 1.4HP. for perspective a 50cc moped outputs about 3 HP, but is ,with the rider included, about double the weight, much less efficient and doesn't have a wide range of gears.

There are GenZe scooters all over the place here (Scoot uses them). They function quite well.

I was thinking of getting a NIU a while back. Prices are absurd here in Europe, but that's a given. The main problem is the range, really. I live in a rural area and 50 km is not that much here.

I think I'll just get an electric bicycle instead.

Yes, all tier 1 and most tier 2 cities ban motorcycles because of pollution. That's why everyone rides electric scooters.
