I got pic related for commuting/gravel riding/general fun however I'm having second thoughts about the drivetrain.

Currently I have full 2x11 6800 with with 6800 46/36 "CX" crankset. The range is fine, no complains about that.

However I have had regrets about not going with the 1x Rival drivetrain. For sleeker looks due to not having front shifter with extra cable etc, and hydro brakes. I did switch the BB7's that came with my bike to TRP Spyres right away and they feel really good, desu.

Anyway, am I falling for the 1x meme? Can you talk some sense into me?

For road/cross/gravel 2x is better than 1x, but SRAM is better than Shimano. Go Rival 2x or just stick with what you already have.

Drive train value imo:
Sram mid range>Shimano mid range>sram low end>Shimano low end>Shimano high end>sram high end.

I find that mid range sram performs as well as Shimano next tier offering except in the wieght department. I started using x5 and have been blown away with how there perform for the price.

1x11 just won it's first road race a few days ago, team aquablue run 44 x 36-9.

It's still a meme but keep in mind meme magic has already elected a POTUS, it can certainly change the cycling industry

I would plug those drivetrain numbers into a gear calculator and see what you get.. Probably similar range to a 1x --- if you have the CX70 derailer you can get pretty weird with chainrings. I would try to get a new crank and get something like 42x24 but that's just me. You could probably go 48/34 or even 50/34 if you have cx70

dude thats prettyeasy to answer to be honest.

ride it for a two weeks and keep an ey out for what gears you use.

if you frequently top out or botom out you should stick with two by.

if you only use a smaller range might as well go to one by.

if you think one by is cool and you are intrigued by the concept just go for it.

I think it's great for everythign that's not competative roadcycling

Was this a brand new bike?

More on topic: I've had both 105 hydro 2X and Apex 1X hydro. Shimano probably shifted a bit more smoothly, but the SRAM setup (even being the lowest level) works great, and I ultimately sold the Shimano bike (mainly because Specialized SCS).

In conclusion, both are fine. Ride this bike, and if you want 1X, get it on your next bike, and make sure it has hydros and thru axles.

Your opinion is shit. We're talking about road, not MTB. Even Sora works better than SRAM. You have to get down to Tourney or maybe Claris to feel worse than SRAM and SRAM doesn't even make any road components at that level. That's not to say SRAM doesn't work fine, because it does. It's to say that Shimano feels better and retains that better feel tiers below SRAM's supposed midrange. I should know because I use SRAM because I'm a weight weenie. It's fine, it's light, but that's pretty much all it has going for it if you aren't a hydro 1x memer.

Wasn't that just a single stage? 1x can do perfectly fine depending on the stage. 1x is perfect for flat TT courses for example. Also having more gears is a plus when you don't have a mechanic to switch rings/cassettes every day for you.

On the other hand, there's more chainring options and people generally like a chainring between the big ring and the small ring, but the difference is split with a double. If people weren't phobic of triples, you could get your choice of a 39 or 42 ring to do normal riding in and the other rings for situational use.
