I actually just use platform pedals and a pair of 160 gram Sauconys and cycle recreationally and for transportation since I don't drive. I have considered that the cycling industry falls for stupid memes a lot but is productive and profitable nonetheless. I don't feel like flushing 630 dollars down the toilet for Speedplay pedals and several hundred more for shoes, when already I can see how they're less than ideal. I know to some degree of certainty what my bicycle looks like that I intend to race, but nobody manufactures it, so I content myself philosophising about its technology.
