>>1161144The thing with austin is they're trying to turn it into a tourist destination and to get in all those glossy "urban life" type magazines. To do that, they're focusing on all sorts of flashy stuff in a 1/2 mile radius around downtown, while neglecting the rest of the city. In addition, austin itself is small, separately incorporated suburbs make up a lot of what people consider to be austin, and those suburbs, esp sunset valley, westlake, the whole southwest parkway and 71 area, they just dont give a fuck about anything but cars.
So what you have is incredible infrastructure for the yuppies living in $500k studio apartments downtown, lots of shiny stuff for tourists, some nice stuff around the flashy new developments along a few corridors which are almost all lived in by californians, and crumbling roads and mile long traffic jams for everyone else
