I spent time in third world countries and the locals I spoke to usually had 50-250cc machines with 250cc being the upper limit. The average was 125cc and they even looked at the guy with the 600cc supersport like a hardcore live or die track racer... when 600cc is considered a starting size here.
I almost got a $300 lane splitting ticket about 3-4 years ago. That would've been exactly the cost of the guitar tube amp I fixed up to trade for the motorcycle. I was in the city, in summer grid lock, riding an '82 air cooled 450cc parallel twin, when I can feel the engine building up too much heat so I started lane splitting. I was going at bicycle speeds when a cop spotted me and started writing me up. I was luckily let go with just a warning but I'd have a hard time justifying throwing what little money I have for a ticket that cost the same as my bike before working on it. Not only are a lot of our laws retarded, this one especially.
