I really want to support my LBS as much as possible because it's nice to have instant access to basic parts only a 10 minute walk away, but for some things like hub cones it's faster and cheaper for me to order parts online. It's a pretty small operation, but I figured something like that would be on hand in case a customer brought in a 20 year old bike still running whatever's left of the original grease in the hubs.

fuck the LBS all of them have turned to garbage, the only thing they are good for is trying out bikes you might like and testing new shoes to see what size actually works for you.
