I think some local clubs use "Easy ride, no drop" as a joke. "Easy ride? No. Drop!" At best more than one person gets dropped so they don't have to ride alone.

It can be surprisingly difficult to maneuver your body to get your legs underneath you when laying sideways in the snow still clipped in.

I just saw a news story about a snowboarder who died when he fell head first into a 5 foot deep pile of fresh powder and couldn't free himself.

The mtb trails and some other paths that walkers / dog walkers frequent get continuously packed down throughout the winter but only a foot or two wide. To either side is deep loose snow. In the worst spots you go to put a foot down and there's nothing there.

I'm not very confident on my skills for that reason, I'm afraid I will look like a loser if I push hard to just overtake them and then get dropped because they are stronger.
On my area road cyclists looks to be pretty serious, fit guys with pretty good bikes so the chances of them destroying me in the road are extremely high. I can only pass leisure riders like me.

If you pass someone and think they're going to overtake you again just slow down and check your watch like you're timing a recovery period, that way it will seem like you're just doing intervals.

I have strava and log my rides on strava but I honestly dont know what you mean by flybys. Is there a way to see what speed groups are going in my area on a computer?

Strava will show you who you pass during your ride, you can look at other user’s profiles in your area and see what kind of riding they do. You can also just search for clubs in your area and see if members are doing group rides.

Groups exist for pretty much every type of speed, from 12mph no drop durdles to 25mph+ wannabe pro pelotons. You could have any number and type in your area, the only thing to do is check out their webpages or strava stats.

I recently started using strava and I was proud of myself for making good times on the yearly leaderboards until I started stalking everyone else's rides and realized none of them were even trying while I was at 100% and only able to land an average of 5th on most segments (yearly). I average under 16mph regardless of distance while everyone else in the area is doing between 18-20mph on 40 mile rides. On the rare occasion I encounter another rider it's either when they're going past me up a hill twice as fast or when I end up behind one and don't dare try to overtake after seeing the amount of muscle they have on the back of their legs. There is a weekly ride at a nearby lbs that splits in two groups, the beginner group claims to average at 15mph, but I'm afraid of being laughed out when I show up on a carbon bike and go the direction of the beginners and fatties.

Go home, watch the datas..Almost every segment about a minute slower than my PRs. And all of them significantly slower than last spring. Mfw.

Tbh I was doing around 50 miles a week for three months then I took a break for around 4-5 months. I think it's been two months since I started again. Now I'm doing between 60 and 90 miles a week. Some hills around, not sure if it's enough to make a difference.
