At first, rental rates used to suck and limited stations but now there's docking stations everywhere with more and more popping up. There's even one less than a two minute walk from my home and if that one is empty, there's another one a five minute walk away. I've never seen an empty docking station except during the nicest summer days. When I ride by the lake front, I see a bunch of people riding them.
Now about the bikes, I rode one for shits and giggles and on my first go around in a parking lot I low sided from turning to hard. I don't even remember the last time I low sided my personal bikes with gud tires and proper setups. I'm sure everyone already knows they're heavier than the moon but I doubt you'd understand how heavy they really are until you try one. The fit is awkward and I wouldn't trust the front and rear drum brakes. The top speed on it's highest gear is my cruising pace with my gotta go fast fred sled. It's all a given though considering they are rental utility commuter bikes. I do love how they're all equipped with bells and a basket. Sometimes when I pass by a Divvy station I ring all the bells for the hell of it.
Worse though are the people who ride them have the worse bike path etiquette. I mean, I'm glad this allows more people to get their foot into my favorite form of tra/n/sportation but it's quite annoying when 2 or 3 of them are riding abreast, chit chatting at a jogging pace taking up both lanes of traffic, erratically swerving on the bike path. It's not only dangerous to them but everyone around them.
