He claims to have finished top 40, but it isn't clear how many people participated. He also appears to have just picked this bike for this event and has an TT bike for iron mans. He was just showing off with a 30 year old bike for a 30 year anniversary. The picture may very well be him being passed up by the other guy, and even though the other guy is on a road bike, you can tell it is old and beat up.
The athlete claims he was sent a message that it was OK. The racing federation claims they sent him a message saying it was not OK but he participated anyways.
Basically, the guy is an iron man athlete with a real TT bike, but he wanted his 15 minutes of fame so he did the event on a shit bike, then he gets DQ'd for it, and is playing it up to get another 15 minutes of fame. That's my take at least.
