>>1165202The closest thing I know of military transports like this being used like an airliner is for ferrying scientists and support staff to and from Antarctica. These flights often double as supply ships, and in a lot of ways these are totally overkill for passengers. They're designed to carry really big stuff, so by putting in passenger seats you tend to waste a ton of space (vertically). Also, instead of normal lavatories, they just throw a couple porta johns in the back. So most passengers probably wouldn't like that, but I guess passenger comforts on passenger planes are already few and far between so not a huge deal.
So, yes, they can carry passengers and are a good option when flights need to double as supply flights, but would be horribly too expensive for a normal airline to use. Even FedEX and UPS just use pretty normal planes for their cargo flights, so I imagine that you need to be carrying some really big, heavy stuff to make the economics work out.
