Power is a rate of work; work per time.
Torque is a specific type of force so really it's easier to think about the force of your ft. Versus the distance traveled by the bike rather than think about alk the torque changes involved in gearing.
But I guess that's what this is all about isn't it?
Regardless they cannot magically produce work done. If you meaure the chain force on any other part of the stroke it is lower i guarantee it. Is this a bad thing tho?
