If OP wants flat bars... depends. If he's only going to be riding under like 14 miles, then a 90s rigid mountain bike with semislicks would be good. If OP wants flat bars and intends to do rides longer than that, I'd be inclined to get a new flat bar hybrid.
OP, if you get a hybrid, DO NOT get one with suspension. Suspension on hybrids is literally the most retarded thing any human has ever invented and the people that thought it was a good idea should be in prison for life for being fucking retards.
Also, there is a difference between a hybrid and a cruiser/comfort bike. Hybrids are great. 'Comfort bikes' are absolute garbage, and a fuck of a lot of people falsely refer to them as hybrids.
