2. People view public transportation as something The Poor have to use, therefore it's undesirable
(EXCEPTION: Major metropolis like NYC, where only the The Rich can afford personal transportation for various reasons. Even then there's taxis=tradeoff between public and private transportation)
3. No amount of legislation, even if it's unilateral, will force people to like or use public transportation in the U.S. If there's voting involved they'll vote against it if it means more taxes or tax dollars taken away from other 'more important' things.
4. Public transit IS NOT PRACTICAL for 100% of cases in any event. If you have to get somewhere specific or in the middle of nowhere you can't take a bus. If you're transporting something valuable you're not going to take public transit. If you or a family member are sick and need to go to the doctor you don't want to take public transit, nor should you, you're spreading your germs to everyone else. If you have 10 bags of groceries you're not taking the bus. If you're going out for the evening to somewhere nice you're not taking the bus. And so on. There's hundreds of reasons why personal transportation is good and right and necessary and you can't ignore them without looking like an idiot.
You've heard all this before because the same things are said every single time this pointless thread is posted. Nothing new is said, nothing new CAN be said. It's just a slow echo every single time.
MEMO TO ALL OF YOU WHO POST THIS SORT OF THREAD: Just screencap the whole thread and save it on your computer, then pull it back up later when you've 'forgotten' what was said -- because NONE OF IT WILL EVER CHANGE, it's the SAME CONVERSATION every single time.
