>>1174412the soo locks.
>>1174454I love the composites too. Bradshaw McKee and Samuel de Champlain I saw all the time last season.
>>1173793Alpena? She's one of my favorites. Where are you located?
>>1174454>>1174454the largest lakers would not have even fit in the Panama Canal until a couple years ago when the canal was widened. these ships are about 15% larger than the Yamato. they are stranded in the lakes (excl Ontario) by the Welland Canal.
>>1174968>>1174983there's still one in Duluth, the Meteor. It's laid up, I think undergoing restoration work. its a very striking vessel.
if you are into this kind of stuff summer in Duluth is basically the mecca. always a 1000 footer to be seen somewhere in port as well as really special ships like the Lee A Tregurtha, St Marys Challenger, Alpena, etc.
Of the big ones I see the Edwin H Gott and Mesabi Miner all the time (American Spirit pretty often too) in Chicago/NW Indiana. The Miner in particular likes to get close to shore in the waters around Chicago in the shoulder season before the rec boats come out and harass them.
