>>1175292>Since cx bikes have smaller tires it doesnt seem like it would be fun to me.Well, see, that's kinda my reasoning against suspension. A sub-2" wide tire isn't enough tire to justify suspension. Anything gnarly enough to justify the suspension, you'd be pinch-flatting or otherwise shredding your tires constantly.
Anything that's ridable on 40mm tires is rideable on a rigid bike with 40mm tires.
When Fox launched their 40mm travel AX fork and took some bike "journalists" through Big Big Basin for a demo ride, and the reporters were all breathless about how they'd have NEVER been able to ride through there with their "skinny" 45mm tires without the front shock, I laughed my fuckin' ass off. Me and a buddy had ridden those exact same trails the week before, on literal road bikes with 25mm tires. Jobst Brandt was bombing down those roads in the late 70s on 21mm tubulars.
Short travel shocks don't do shit. The bike industry just wants your $$$.
If you're riding gnar and want a more XC-style bike with an 80mm shock, ok, that's legit. If your delicate hands and tush are sore and you want a 40mm shock for your road bike, put some more time in the saddle and quit running your wide gravel tires at 75psi.
