>>1179264Eh, I realised I wrote A330 too late. The A340 and the A330 are very similar to each other, and share most of their systems with each other as well. I suppose the mistake I made was one of saying A330 when I meant A340.
>>1179265Trent 7000 should be already certified, at least I think it should, though I could be wrong. The A330-900 is already in flight testing with the Trent 7000 in use, and since it's just a Trent 700 with upgrades based from the Trent 1000 and Trent XWB/1100. Since the Trent 7000 is just going to be the exclusive engine of the A330neo, I doubt the engine will be used on anything else really, just as the Trent XWB/1100 is the exclusive engine of the A350, but the Trent 1100 hasn't been used on anything else. Maybe a Trent 1200 will see use on another aircraft, but it will probably be a derivative of the Trent 1000, 1100, 7000 and 800.
>>1179272Probably a fan blade failure, though FOD could still be a problem. Bird strikes are quite common, though seeing a fan blade fail after a bird strike is rare. The only probable causes are either FOD incident, or just the engine having slipped through a maintainance schedule or some mechanic just skipping protocols somewhere when doing an engine inspection.
