What's the point of such empty fantasies when none of that is going to happen. There are those guys building that thing in the UK and it's been taking them ten or so years already and gonna take ten or so more to finish.

Oh hell yes! I'm surprised it hasn't been done already.

Mind you #5931 pictured is supposedly in extremely poor shape. Irc around 1992 an internal inspection was done (prior to a repaint job that was much needed). Underneath the exterior cladding on the boiler they found the metal badly deteriorated to the point that there were concerns about the structural integrity. Park officials decided just to reinforce enough to maintain appearances.

Regardless, if they got this running I think it would be THE premier steam train in Canada.

I've seen it, it is in rough shape even from the outside, it would probably be easier to start from scratch at this point.

it's sad that the will to keep these around doesn't seem to exist in Canada, it's almost questionable if 2860 in Squampton will ever run again.
I guess we still have 6060 and 2816

LNER D16/3 would be my choice. Perfect for herratige & most mainline running in the UK. There is a group looking to build a D16/2 but I dunno why they are going for a less efficient & uglier imo variant. I'm also excited for the LNER P2 to be finished.

I doubt it, UK has very restrictive loading guage. Can't run two-high containers for instance.

Smoke lifters, they create upward airflow to raise the smoke further above the top of the train so it doesn't get as dirty. Popular on passenger engines in Europe, but never really took off in America. Which makes it such a fluke that UP 844, one of the most emblematic American locos, has them.
