It's like wearing a flashing neon sign that says "I AM A FILTHY CASUAL", because that's what flat-bar 'road bikes' are for.

You really should get rid of that road saddle and get a Brooks, or some huge gel-padded thing the size of a tractor seat instead. You obviously don't got very fast at all or very far at all, so you may as well have your pampered grandmother ass as comfy as possible.

LOL. You probably ride your brakes all the way down any descent, too -- assuming you even climb hills in the first place. Or do you walk it up them? No matter. You wouldn't know what to do with proper drop bars anyway, those are only for riders who actually take on technical descents and need to be able to get their center of gravity lower and push down/pull up on the drops to get the bike leaned over in a high-speed corner, and that's not you now is it?

Only like 3 miles per day commuting to work. Can easily maintain 18mph on flat and it's geared high enough that I've gotten to 36mph down a hill (could've broken 40mph if it was longer). Not super fast but not that slow either.

Looks like a good commuter/trekking bike, not fast, but low maintainance, comfortable postion and simple components.

It will get a lot of hate since it is a not aero and therefore slower than the gottagofast roadbikes.

I considered to build one myself, but with verry low and narrow bars + tribars, as a budget TT-bike.

That's cool, but I didn't say anything about sprinting. If the hill wasn't so short I could've gotten well over 36, obviously I could go even faster with drop bars but there's no need to go that fast when commuting (it'd be illegal on all the roads I ride for a start).

For someone who doesn't care about how fast I am you seem to care quite a bit. Carrying on thinking I care how fast you are but I don't.

Definitely. I've never done one on this hub and I got it second hand so no idea how many miles it's done. Can definitely tell the difference compared to my newer hub, shifting isn't as smooth and it's very difficult to get the shifter indexed probably and for it to stay in gear.

I see,I am an IGH autist myself that is why I am asking.
I have heard some ppl have had some succes by (mis)adjusting the shifter a bit on a alfine 11 a bit to achieve a good indexing.
Does your cable still run fine?(because it is paramount it does so)

Yeah the index marks at the hub aren't super precise, just a rough guide on where to start (I guess there's too much variation in all the parts to make the marks line up perfectly).

The cable should be fine as I'm running a full length housing but I'll probably change it anyway when I pull the hub apart.

You obviously don't know how all the parts fit together and why it would be unreasonable to expect the indexing marks to line up perfectly. The lax tolerances between the parts are partly down to cost, partly to ensure that they fit all hubs, and partly to ensure it doesn't all jam up when coated with mud.

Okay, it's just you calling it a rush job implies they didn't put enough thought into it, if anything it's the opposite. They've made many IGHs over a rather long period including an older model that is very similar to the Alfine 11 (the Alfine 8), so if there were any problems you can bet they'd have fixed them. In fact that's what they did, they reversed the shifting direction so it matches their derailer trigger shifters and improved the lubrication by making it an oil bath.

They dropped the nexus 4 range because the the right (ball cup) pitted so quickly and the spring that engaged the primary roller clutch slipped so often the just said''fuck it''
The sg7c18,r40,r40,r41 and r42 all had problems with either water ingress and/or pawls breaking,not to mention the absolutely pathetic lubrication they had.
But don't mind me,I've only taken more than a thousand of these hubs apart,I'm sure you are the real expert.
