Has anyone tried this?
I am in Denver for on business trips on and off all summer. Would love to do some biking around without having to buy one here.

I would check parking laws beforehand.

I rented bikes during a trip one time, but had to rearrange my plans based on where I could park the bikes legally and not where I really wanted to go.

Of course that will depend on where you are going, so take that in consideration.

There's tons of rent a bike racks throughout downtown, they also just came out in the past 2 weeks with these faggoty electric scooters which suddenly appeared all over the place. I don't know how either work. Cycling is fine for downtown...I recommend the ride over to cherry creek reservoir. There may or may not be paths to reach golden and boulder but you might not want to ride that far on a granny bike, especially since there's no docks that I know of out that way. There's transit to both that works alright-ish so it's not necessary.
Also your picture made me angry.

I have seen the docks downtown but that does not really help unless i uber over there and back.

I believe the City of Denver has a contract with only one bicycle rental, B-Cycle, which only allows designated docking stations for end-of-use parking. No other bicycle rentals are allowed.
The scooters were simply dropped off by rental companies without asking permission, and in my understanding the city government is taking action against them.

you could probably rent a bike from an actual bike shop around here.. I know they do it at the ski resorts when they switch to mountain bike trails in the summer.

I don't know how that works in the US, but in other countries locking your bike in a streetlamp, for example, might get your bike taken by the city

There might be independent places that rent bikes, like shops. Then you would need to return it there, but that might work well if staying for a while.

In Denver you can lock your bike anywhere, so far as I know. The B-Cycle rental bikes will keep charging you, though, until you return them to one of their red docking stations.

Ok I took anons advice and went and rented one of those scooters today.
holy fuck that was fun.
Pretty damn cheap and they are all over downtown.
Early in the day it was easy to grab one but people started fighting over them by afternoon.
so fucking fun I will go do it again tomorrow.
I had no idea they were so fast and out of control feeling.
This will end with lawsuits and brain damage I am sure but for now its a party
