I do it. Half the reason to increase my sun exposure so I dont burn as easily. The other half is because its fucking hot in the summer in Texas and it feels good.

Tanning is a stupid practise invented and popularized before discoveries about the harms of sunburn, because it got associated with rich people's leisure activities. Before the 20th century, the rich avoided the sun and wore hats and long sleeves outdoors.
The number of recorded cases of skin cancer quinquagintupled since.
Tanning is literally aging your skin and risking cancer for social standing. Like that African tribe's women stretching their necks with rings, it's an absurd practise to cultures not familiar with it.
Image search "truck driver sunburn" to see what sunburn did to an old driver's face.
Save your skin. Protect yourself with shading, upf clothing, and sunscreen.

But is that really true? Why does a tanned person instinctively seems more healthy than a pale one? And what about that D vitamin deficiency stuff in northern regions?

I mean i'm not debating it's bad effects, but IMHO complete lack of tan and sun exposure might have as bad effects.
