I'm going to start racing on my local velodrome. I can afford to spend $500/month on equipment, and I can use the rental bikes in races until I can afford my own. I need a plan for what I should buy and in what order I should buy it to prioritize high benefit per dollar ratio items. "Benefit" can be stiffness, weight (lots of madisons), aerodynamics, and rolling resistance. Keep in mind that I'm a skilled mechanic and can do all my own maintenance, build wheels, glue tubulars, etc.
I have a bit of what I need already. What I need to buy now is:
A speed suit.
A wheelset
A spare wheelset
Track tubular tires
A UCI legal track frame
A crankset and bottom bracket
An aero helmet
I already have pedals, a seatpost, pretty decent handlebars, a variety of different length and angle stems (basically every combo you can think of. Got em cheap from a former bike shop owner), and an aero jersey from Pearl Izumi with matching bib shorts. The rental bikes are felt tk3's.
To reiterate the problem: which specific things would you buy, how much does each thing cost, and in what order should I buy them given the difference in performance with what I'm using now?
