I went from MTB to road and put a stem with a similar ridiculous angle on my first roadie, too. After many years, I copped another bike with a normal straight stem and dailied it for a year. I had a repair issue so I pulled out the old bike and that angle felt super awkward. It felt right when I was used to MTB but now I'd rather have the stem it came with on it.
tl;dr after you ride road for a good while, try borrowing a bike with a straight stem and compare. your preference can change radically.
