>What is audax?
An audax event is a long-distance cycling event, using a system of timed checkpoints. Using a 'brevet' card, passing through given 'controls' within a minimum and maximum time limit. The typical audax event (or 'brevet') is 200km-600km but there are shorter and longer events, including the likes of Paris Brest Paris and London Edinburgh London.
Even this is not the limit because there are set routes, known as 'Permanents', which span the length and breadth of the country and go up to 3200km. These include the 'end to end' (Land's End to John-O'Groats) and many other famous rides.
>Lol why would I do an audax event and not just go on a ride?
The allure of audax is that your rides will be logged centrally by the Audax Club Parisien, an organisation older than the UN, the ISO, and the Olympics. By completing series of validated events, which are run at a very low cost by volunteers on a non profit basis and often include great quality catering, you can also collect awards including the coveted 'Super Randonneur.' Your name then goes on an honour role that will last until the end of time.
Validated audaxes will also allow you to qualify for PBP and LEL which are some of the most amazing experiences you'll ever have as a rider.
Find your nearest Audax club, either regional or national, and join the community that's been growing worldwide since 1904!
