Hello /n/
I was referred here from /sp/
>>86869041 Could you recommend me a good cycling helmet? I have been riding without one, but I crash to often to keep doing that.
Right now, I am undecided between the Kask Protone and the Kask Valegro. I'm also open to any other suggestions. Number 1# is safety, number 2# is comfort+ventilation.
Use case: Just a hobby for enjoyment and exercise. But it involves a lot of climbing where I live.
Budget: I can afford any helmet on the market. The question is, which one is best, safest, most comfortable, and therefore worth buying.

I ride with a Protone and it's an excellent helmet. The Valegro is supposed to be even better ventilated for racing hill segments, but I've never tried one.

>>1223908 They're all essentially equally safe. MIPS is a new thing that's meant to be safer against torsional forces, so a helmet with MIPS is potentially safer than a helmet without.
The really important thing is comfort. More expensive helmets get lighter and better ventilated, and therefore comfier. But you really need to try them out. Don't order a helmet blindly online. Go to a store and try on every helmet they have and get the one that feels most comfortable to you.

If safety is your first concern, Bontrager Ballista MIPS, Specialized Chamonix MIPS, or any of the other MIPS helmets that did well on that Virginia Tech test.

I bought a protone to replace my mojito which was wrecked in a crash and desu I'm kind of disappointed with the build quality, especially considering it's an even more absurdly expensive helmet. That Valegro looks the same, see the bit where the straps join under your ear? Unlike the mojito, and even a cheap-ish fox I've got it's not adjustable and that shit is fucking scratchy.

Kek just buy a $30 helmet from amazon. So long as you check that it's safety rated it's fine. Look for one that's safety rated for european standards since they're higher.

2. Buy the cheapest helmet that's got the appropriate safety approvals. You're not racing, you don't need an expensive helmet.
Oh and by the way if you're crashing all the time and your helmet hits the ground you need to replace it, then.

I personally really like my Giro Revel, for only $60 it's a MIPS equipped helmet with nice ventilation, a comfortable interior and a visor. I use my mine for both MTB and road biking, when it wears out or I crash hard enough to put it out of service I'm just going to buy another one in black.

Mountain bike helmets are safer than road helmets because they offer more coverage especially in the rear. Also the kind with the adjustable knob in the back are arguably safer because they should provide a snugger fit so more likely to stay in place during a crash (common on expensive helmets, less common on cheap helmets)
