Any anons here on /n/ versed in bike touring? My friend and I are planning a trip to Japan some years down the road and our plan is to travel mostly (~90-95%) by bike. We figure that we should be able to sleep roadside, in bus stations/train stations, or in parks most of the time. The idea is to mostly cowboy camp outside but on rainy nights we will have a two person ultralight tarp.

Any tips or suggestions for the bike touring noob? Thoughts of which types of bikes work best for this endeavor?
