>>1224430They're arguably the best Japanese fighter of the war, or at least the best to be produced in serious numbers. They were faster, tougher, and better armed than the Zero or Ki-43, and could out-turn just about anything it was likely to face. Sadly (for the Japanese, anyway) they didn't really mesh well with Japanese tactics, and later models were downgraded in armament. (Early -61s used imported German MG151 20mms, later models switched to a lower-velocity Japanese gun equivalent.)
