Real talk' how are some people SO bad at a riding a bike?

I don't remember the last time I consciously turned my handlebars, but I see people on beach cruisers/MTBs/BSOs constantly turning their bars back and forth, back and forth, even when they're going straight.
I constantly see people spinning in first gear (Or close to it), trying real hard but getting nowhere; why?
I understand the US has a clear bias against adult bikeridership, but only those packs of kids on So-Cal Flyers have any idea about how to ride. When I encounter a group of teens while working, I just stop and stay put until they crash over me like an unbalanced and wobbly wave because none of these shits can fucking ride.

What kind of university dd you go to OP? Even the most ditzy and casual bike owners at my uni ride around on Cannondales, Specialized's, and Treks

Only on occasion do I spot subhuman shit like Motobecane or Huffy on the bike racks.

I dunno what things are like these days but when I was in school the trust fund kids paid a pretty penny to be able to ride on a "practical" schwinn or huffy, being seen on a brand like cannondale or trek was perceived as incredibly embarrassing. The most coveted bike was something that, in their minds, dutch people would probably ride. These were worth 3-4x more than the /n/ memebike (rigid MTB with slicks).

I rode a carbon fiber trek but I wasn't exactly Mr. Popular, I probably had sex a total of 10 times throughout my entire college career.

Consider this: bikes at colleges get stolen all the time even if they're locked up properly. The better your bike looks the more attractive it is to thieves. Your bike is more attractive to thieves and will get stolen sooner than their shitty looking rusty bikes. They bought shitty looking rusty bikes because they know this and don't want their transportation stolen, and even if it does they spent next to nothing on it and won't spend anything they don't have to on it because they know it's likely to get stolen at some point anyway and are, as previously stated, poorfag college students and can't spare the money.

Does that make sense?

You should make your bike look shitty and rusty so it stands out less and maybe won't get stolen so quickly.

Practice on quiet roads. A few hours and you'll pick up the basics, but you'll need to work at one handed riding, necessary for indicating. I've never needed no-hands.

bike thieves do not have expertise in appraisal from sotheby's.. if it looks like carbon race bikes or downhill mountain bikes in flashy colors, they think that's expensive. but even a steel-tubed trek in a muted color-scheme won't attract significantly more attention than a schwinn because rarely are there bike thieves who study vintage bicycle catalogs in order to discern the value differences between suntour groupsets or even between a trek 800 and a trek 970, which look nearly identical everywhere but in the details.

you dont have to paint it idiotic colors or intentionally rust your bike in order to defer theft onto some other poor sap, just use proper security.

Teenaged boys are encouraged to jerk off over million dollar sports cars but wanting an entry level bike that costs less than an extremely shitty computer that will be obsolete in 6 months is considered crazy.
