Recommend me some wheels /n/

I mostly ride shitty LA streets but explore some gravel too. I like hopping and destroyed my front wheel on a weird landing, so I’m looking for some bombproof 700s I can fit between 30s and 40s rubber on for under $800 with six bolt discs.

If you want really strong, get some handbuilts from a custom wheelbuilder. You can save money if you buy the parts online and take them to him, discuss it first though.
Try to get a dynamo hub in there if you can.

you can get faster with factory wheels though

Yeah I'd suggest getting some built with deore xt hubs, decent rims and a high spoke count if you really are worried about abusing them. Otherwise the aluminium options available from hunt really are fantastic for the price and I've heard good things about the modern endurance focused ksyriums too

Good looks, right now I’m thinking a pair of Stans grail s1. The bike came with WTB sx19s so just about anything would be an upgrade. I have a real budget of $500 but would throw more if the specs and reviews really kick ass.

Smaller, wider wheels are stronger. I don't think those bars are a good idea for jumps and heavy landings, especially with a rigid fork.

I recommend you take the chance to go tubeless as well while you're switching out the wheels. I've got a pair of $200 DT Swiss X1900 wheels on my MTB and don't really have anything to complain about. 1700g so light enough, tubeless compatible, freewheel makes an okay noise, well it's a solid pair of wheels for the price. They're for centerlock discs but come with an adapter for 6-bolt.

So long as you have a working wheelset right now, save up your money and get some bulletproof wheels built for you. At least 32 hole rims, 36 or more preferred, and hubs that emphasize strength and durability over light weight. My go-to has been DT Swiss RR585 rims, but they don't make those anymore. There are similar out there. A wheelset like this, especially for a purely recreational rider, will pay for itself in the long run due to it's long life. If that's your bike in the pic then they'll last even longer than they would for me because you have disc brakes so it's not like the rim brake track is going to wear out on you. The RR585's I have, have never in the years I've had them even needed to be trued, and I'm not exactly gentle with them. In all seriousness, a good bulletproof custom wheelset will pay for itself in the long run.

You mean "deep section"? Those are wheels with extra tall rims, often in the neighbourhood of 60-80mm ( pic related ).

They offer improved aerodynamics over normal "shallow" wheels, but are heavier. They are a kind of a tradeoff betwenn normal and full discs.

You get them by buying, stealing or winning.

Just rebuild a wheel on the hub you already have. Otherwise - get a set of MTB 29"er wheels. They will fit 30-40 rubber fine and those things are sturdier then road stuff.

Just make sure that the hubs fit your bike.
